Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed openness to a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in June. The potential meeting would mark their first in-person encounter since Trump assumed office on January 20.

Trade Tensions and Reciprocal Tariffs

In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday (19), Trump reiterated that the tariffs imposed on April 2 would be reciprocal against countries that he claims have taken advantage of the United States. His remarks underscore his continued focus on trade policies aimed at reshaping economic relationships with key global partners.

Golden Visa Policy to Reduce U.S. Debt

During the interview, Trump also discussed his administration’s plan for revenue from "golden visas"—a program allowing wealthy foreign investors to obtain U.S. residency. He stated that the funds generated from these visas would be directed toward reducing the national debt.

Back in February, Trump unveiled the proposal for a new "golden visa" initiative, targeting affluent foreigners willing to invest millions in exchange for the right to live in the U.S. He emphasized that the program would include strict verification processes to ensure eligibility.

A Political and Economic Strategy

As Trump prepares for potential diplomatic engagements, his comments signal a broader strategy of leveraging trade policy and immigration reforms to bolster economic and political standing. With the U.S.-China trade relationship remaining a focal point, a meeting with Xi Jinping could have significant implications for future negotiations and economic stability.
